This was the second year Ron and I painted during Addison’s fourth of July event, Kaboom Town. Last year, no plan. This year, we had plan. Jeremy from Odd Jobs By Odd People came through and built the panels and constructed two mobile easels for this event and times after. The plan, rock out a combination of our initial sketches. We both dug the result after a days worth of painting.

The following was taken from the review of the show posted by the host, Chris Sker
“My motivation for this endeavor was my daughter Maya. As many of you are aware, about 3 years ago Maya was stricken with a very rare auto-immune disease called Juvenile Dermato-Myositis, or JDM, or JM…Christy & I have recently set up a Special Needs Trust for Maya, which will follow her all her life. This is a fund that will be used to cover costs related to her ongoing and future care…Now that we have this Trust, I am able to organize benefit events, to raise funds for Maya. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have been doing special events for many years, and that it is my passion. Now I am directing my experience into putting on fundraising events for my daughter. Decked Out was the first.
To be clear, each of the artists donated their piece to the show, and took no money from the sale. I provided the blank deck to each of them, and they generously supported this endeavor through their labor and their talent. And the results were fantastic!
By all accounts, the show was a great success. I never would have imagined it, but all 21 decks sold! The opening night reception was packed, and the crowd was a dynamic mix of arts scenesters, street artists, gallery types, skaters, and art fans who were excited to see something new and innovative take place in our town. I got to catch up with several old friends, as well as make many new ones, and I was thrilled beyond words at how supportive everyone was. Seeing the bare walls at the end of the show, and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces (especially the people that won the bidding on their decks!) was more than I could have asked for.”
Finally had a chance to live paint again for the first time in a while. Had a blast and talked with several people about what exactly it was they were looking at, good to get out there and get some feedback. I have some paintings for sale in the gallery so stop by if you’re in the Frisco area. Masterpiece Gallery in Stonebriar Mall…

Here are some pictures I got to take while at the 6th annual Meeting of Styles in Chicago. An event I didn’t know was taking place until a week before it happened. So this was an amazing experience to stumble upon. I got a chance to watch some real skilled individuals get down with spray cans and photograph writers from all over the US. I only got to catch the second day’s worth of painting but I did get to see most everybody’s piece finished in the end. Here’s a handful…

A few pictures of my tent space at the Blue Dome Arts Festival here in Tulsa. 2009 was the second year I got a booth for the event and both years have been great experiences.
